Celebrating World Oceans Day 2023 with MRC

Background of the event

The ocean covers the majority of the earth but only a small portion of its waters has been explored. Despite humanity’s utter reliance on it, and compared to the breadth and depth of what it gives us, the ocean receives only a fragment of our attention and resources in return. This year’s World Oceans Day celebrates the theme Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing.
World Ocean Day was officially established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2008 to be celebrated worldwide, annually on 8 June to resolve the problems of Oceans and also to save Ocean water. On 8 June 2009, World Ocean Day was officially declared by the United Nations General Assembly.
This decade has been declared as the “Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development” by the United Nations. It is crucial for local communities to be actively involved in the development process in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in a true sense.
