MRC’s Focus on Skilling Ecosystem
MRC acts as a catalyst in skill development by providing necessary advice and technical assistance to enterprises, companies and organizations that provide skill training. It also develops appropriate models to enhance, support and coordinate initiatives.
In addition to this, we also ensure resonance amongst the stakeholders within the overall ambit of the UDA framework alongside our mantra of Outreach, Engage, Sustain to deliver tangible results.
Skilling Ecosystem for Underwater Domain Awareness
The Indian Ocean Region (IOR) has become a key arena for geopolitical and geo-strategic interactions in the 21st century. Nations both within and outside the region are deploying strategic assets there. Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) is crucial for governing and managing challenges and opportunities in marine and freshwater systems. By mapping resources accurately, addressing security and sustainability concerns, and deploying policy and technology interventions, MSP enables efficient exploitation of these vast systems.
Our Mantra
As the first step, this phase enables sensitization of the audiences towards the opportunities within the Underwater Domain. This is executed with strategic outreach program comprising of webinars, seminars, workshops, interactions and more driven by specific agenda relevant to the audiences and allied stakeholders.
At this stage we ensure adequate handholding to facilitate skill building and creation of adequate knowledge to drive momentum. With help of alliance partners and our deep knowledge experts, we ensure transfer of skills and attitudes required for future success.
At this step, the focus is on creating long term sustainable frameworks with effective policy & technology interventions at multiple levels. The implementation of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Best Practices (BPs) play a strong role in ensuring that stakeholders are able to sustain the momentum required to deliver sustainable impact in areas related to the Underwater Domain.
Skilling Modules Document
The Underwater Domain Awareness (UDA) framework introduces skilling modules in four categories: Corporate Training, Diploma, BVoc, and Post Graduate Programs. These programs cater to diverse stakeholders, including security forces, blue economy, shipping, fisheries, and environmental management. The curriculum covers topics such as sonar technology, marine biotechnology, data analytics, bioprospecting, and deployment strategies. Additionally, E-learning modules are available for a comprehensive understanding of UDA concepts. The UDA framework aims to enhance knowledge and skills for effective management of underwater resources and security.
E-Learning Modules
E-Learning Modules have been developed to provide a nuanced exposure to the students and young professionals on varied aspects of the UDA framework. The modules have been developed in series of submodules that cover the varied dimensions of the topics. The series are mentioned below and the concept note for each is linked:

Skilling Handbook
The handbook explores the economic importance of underwater systems, emphasizing the potential of deep-sea resources and the challenges in the Indo-Pacific region. It advocates for Underwater Domain Awareness (UDA) for security and economic prosperity, with a focus on the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The Maritime Research Center’s UDA Framework offers collaborative solutions, emphasizing workforce development for global underwater challenges.
