Addl DG (CG) Vijay D Chafekar (Retd) did his M.Sc. from Pune University. He Joined Indian Police Service in 1973, allotted to the State of Maharashtra; on deputation to Cabinet Secretariat, New Delhi for 22 years; specialized in International Communism, Islamic fundamentalism and transnational organized crime/ terrorism; worked as Commissioner, Special Bureau, Mumbai and participated in investigations of the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts and Purulia Arms Drop cases. He served in various Indian Diplomatic missions; represented India in the UNOV, International Atomic Energy Agency, UN Office for Drugs and Crime; represented India at the 10th UN Crime Conference, Vienna and Conference on Transnational Organized Crime at Palermo (Italy). Later served as Police Commissioner in Nagpur and Pune, headed Anti-Naxal- Operations, State CID; promoted as Director General of Police; decorated with Police Medal and President’s Medal for Distinguished Services; felicitated by Lions, Rotary Clubs and Top Management Consortium, Pune for Outstanding Public Service; given ‘Pride of Fergusson College’ award. Authored many books and articles. His book on ‘Police Reforms in India’ was released by the then, Hon. Union Home Minister, Chidambaram at the Annual DGP Conference in New Delhi on Oct 16, 2009. After retirement on Dec 31, 2009 worked as consultant on Vigilance and Security in the private sector for 10 years. Working as the Professor Emeritus in the Department of Defense and Strategic Studies and as the Director of Competitive Examinations Center in SPPU in Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), since February 2019.
